According to BBC Sport, Everton and Manchester City are yet to open talks about a potential move for John Stones.

The defender has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park this summer despite a disappointing season last year.

Chief among those chasing his signature are Manchester City and Pep Guardiola, with the Catalan boss thought to be keen on the youngster.

He is determined to improve a City defence that struggled again last season as Vincent Kompany was riddled with injuries throughout the campaign.

In his absence, Nicholas Otamendi, Eliaquim Mangala and the now departed Martin Demichelis all failed to put in the level of performances that are expected at the Etihad.

Talk of a move for Stones has been rife for several months, but according to BBC Sport no talks have taken place between the two clubs about the England international.

Should that change in the coming weeks, the same report states that Everton will demand £50 million for their young defender.

The Blues have no need to sell and are keen to keep him at Goodison Park, having fought off interest from Chelsea last summer.

It now remains to be seen whether that is a price that City are willing to pay, given it would make the youngster Britain’s most expensive defender should it go through.
