Real Betis goalkeeper Antonio Adan says he is not thinking about a potential Liverpool switch after having recently extended his contract with the Seville-based club, Spanish paper AS report.

The Reds are looking to strengthen their squad this summer and the goalkeeping positions have long been considered a weakness by supporters, with many uncomfortable with Simon Mignolet between the sticks.

Shot-stopper Loris Karius has already signed for Liverpool following a terrific campaign in Mainz, yet it also appears Betis number one Adan was on the club’s shortlist for potential recruitments.

Whether that’s still the case remains to be seen. Nevertheless, the Betis man has told reporters of his fascination with the Premier League but also his desire to remain in Seville.

“Liverpool? I’ve only recently signed a new contract and I did that because I feel important here with Betis, therefore it’s something I’m not really thinking about,” Adan told AS.

“The Premier League has always been a league I liked and maybe in the future [I will play there], but right now I’m not looking at the future or in the long-term.”

Adan, 29, came through the ranks at Real Madrid but heavy competition for places meant he left the Santiago Bernabeu in 2013 to join Italian side Cagliari.

After just one campaign in Serie A, the 6ft 3inch stopper returned to Spain with Betis and he has since become one of La Liga’s top number ones - playing 56 times over the past two seasons.

Liverpool’s acquisition of Karius would suggest they are no longer in the market for another goalkeeper, though should they choose to replace Mignolet, Adan would represent a decent option.
