Hellas Verona's Pierluigi Gollini denies Roma striker Edin Dzeko
According to Sky Italia's Gianluca Di Marzio, Aston Villa have made a €5m (£4.15m) bid for Hellas Verona goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini.
Villa made their first summer signing last week by landing Bournemouth captain Tommy Elphick, and new manager Roberto Di Matteo will be looking to make more additions to his squad as Villa attempt to make a push for promotion from the Championship.
Intriguingly, former Italian international Di Matteo now looks set to search for a new signing in Italy, with a new goalkeeper being targeted.
Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Italia reports that Villa have lined up Hellas Verona star Pierluigi Gollini, and have made a bid of €5m (£4.15m) to try and land the shot stopper this summer.
Gollini, 21, was on the books at Manchester United having joined from Fiorentina back in 2012, but he left Old Trafford in 2014 to return to Italy and play first-team football with Hellas Verona.
With 26 appearances in Serie A last season, Gollini established himself in the Verona team - and his performances may end up triggering a surprise move back to England.
With Villa searching for a new goalkeeper after poor displays from Brad Guzan and Mark Bunn, it's claimed that Villa have submitted a first bid of €5m for Gollini, which owner Maurizio Setti is weighing up.
The report adds that the last word on the deal will ultimately from Gollini, who is allegedly thinking about a move to Villa Park today as the deal progresses.
A young goalkeeper with potential, Gollini could become Villa's first-choice goalkeeper for years to come, but fans hoping for a proven Championship goalkeeper may be left disappointed if Di Matteo does land Gollini in the coming weeks.
