Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has explained on the club’s official website what Dwight Gayle will bring to the team.
As announced on the Magpies’ official website, the 25-year-old striker has signed a five-year contract.
Benitez has explained on Newcastle’s official website why he has recruited the former Peterborough United striker.
"Dwight is a great player, a proven goalscorer, and it is fantastic news that he has joined us,” Benitez told Newcastle’s official website. "He has a big personality, a lot of energy and pace. He is a good finisher also, so he will add goals to our squad, for sure.
"He knows English football well, too, and that is important in the Championship. I am sure Dwight will want to prove he can make a big difference to our team and I am looking forward to working with him."
Gayle scored three goals and created eight chances in 16 Premier League appearances for Palace during the 2015-16 season.
During the 2014-15 campaign, the former Peterborough striker scored five goals and created 16 chances in 25 league matches for the Eagles.
Back in 2013-14, Gayle scored four goals and created two chances in six Premier League games for Palace.
Newcastle got relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2015-16 campaign and will feature in the Championship next season.
Benitez’s side will start the season as favourites to win the Championship title and get automatic promotion back to the top flight of English football.
