Chelsea are close to agreeing terms with AC Milan goalkeeper Diego Lopez, according to a report from GianlucaDiMarzio.com.

The report says the former Real Madrid keeper could agree a three-year deal at Stamford Bridge ahead of the new season one the Blues offload Asmir Begovic.

It suggests that current number one goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is going to remain at the club despite speculation surrounding his future since the back end of the season, with the Mirror linking him with a move away back in April.

Begovic deputised on several occasions for Courtois last season as the Belgian suffered a knee injury, and interim manager Guus Hiddink rotated the goalkeeper towards the back end of their Premier League campaign.

As a result, one would've thought that incoming manager Antonio Conte had been able to see enough of the Bosnian keeper, but doesn't fancy him to challenge Courtois for a place in the side next season.

The 29-year-old made a total of 25 appearances last season but only managed to keep eight clean sheets since making the £8 million move from Stoke City last summer.

Lopez is a goalkeeper that is experienced playing at the highest level having represented Real Madrid under Jose Mourinho prior to his time at Milan - which perhaps shows that he isn't just coming to the club to sit on the bench.
