Dwight Gayle has told Newcastle United’s official website that his move to the club is a dream come true.

The striker completed a move from Crystal Palace on Friday, reported by the club’s official website, putting pen to paper on a five-year deal at St James’ Park.

He becomes Rafa Benitez’s second signing of the summer after they completed a move for goalkeeper Matz Selz in what is gearing up to be a busy transfer window in the North East.

He arrives at the Magpies having struggled for game time with the Eagles during his three-year spell at the club following a move from Peterborough United.

And he says he can’t wait to get started and help the club head back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.

"It's a dream come true to be at a big club like this," he told nufc.co.uk.

"Newcastle has a massive fan base and a great history so it is amazing to be here. I can't wait to get started, prove myself and score the goals that take us back up to the Premier League. It's where this club belongs."

It now remains to be seen whether Gayle can score the goals that Newcastle will need for a successful season in the Championship.

Goals have been hard to come by for the Magpies for several years and played a big part in their relegation last season.

Ayoze Perez, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Papiss Cisse only managed 18 goals between them last season and Benitez will be hoping Gayle can fix that issue.
