Celtic - Brendan Rodgers Press Conference

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has told The Glasgow Evening Times that he wants to sign a central defender in the summer transfer window.

The Scottish Premiership giants recently signed forward Moussa Dembele, while Kristoffer Ajer had agreed to move to the Bhoys several weeks ago.

Ajer signed a four-year contract with Celtic in February, as announced on the club’s official website at the time.

Rodgers has spoken highly of the 18-year-old midfielder, and he has also made it clear that he is looking to sign a centre-back in the summer transfer window.

The 18-year-old Norway Under-21 international midfielder is a very talented player, and he will be looking to establish himself in the Celtic as the 2016-17 season progresses.

“We are looking at the centre-half position,” Rodgers told The Glasgow Evening Times. “We have some players here I am looking at and I feel we can help to develop and to progress.

“Kristoffer [Ajer] has come in from Norway and looks an outstanding prospect. I don’t want to bring in a whole raft of players. I tend to look at quality and looking to introduce them.”

Celtic will be involved in Champions League qualifiers soon, and the Glasgow giants do need to sign a centre-back.

Efe Ambrose could go to the Olympics, Jozo Simunovic and Dedryck Boyata are injured, and Charlie Mulgrew has yet to sign a new deal with the Hoops. The Bhoys will be favourites to win the Scottish Premiership title next season.
