Manchester United's rebuilding efforts have taken a significant move forward after Zlatan Ibrahimovic confirmed via his Instagram page that he will sign for the club.

United have been linked with signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic ever since the season ended, with the striker deciding to leave Paris Saint-Germain after four seasons.

His contract has now officially expired, and as of July 1 he is a free agent.

Former Red Devils star Rio Ferdinand reacted positively to the news, commenting on his own Instagram page.

He lauded the switch, commenting: "#zlatan looks a little happy to be joining @manchesterunited ! Great ability, character, ego, leader, personality for the club. And a proven winner. Timing."

The BBC reported a couple of days back that Ibrahimovic will complete his move to Manchester United 'by the end of the week'. The Red Devils are yet to comment.

Ibrahimovic scored prolifically for PSG last season and has worked under new United boss Jose Mourinho previously, winning trophies at Inter Milan together.

Once Ibrahimovic is all confirmed from United's end, they are likely to focus on pushing through a deal to sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
