Bournemouth's Matt Ritchie in action
According to The Chronicle, Bournemouth winger Matt Ritchie has undergone a medical with Newcastle United ahead of his move to St. James' Park.
The Magpies are set to strengthen their attacking options with the signing of Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle, according to Sky Sports, who claim Gayle had a medical on Tyneside earlier this week.
Now, attention will turn to other areas of the pitch, but manager Rafael Benitez appears to be making a new signing to replace a current Newcastle star.
The Chronicle report that winger Andros Townsend is poised to join Crystal Palace despite only signing for Newcastle from Tottenham in January, and is leaving even after talks with manager Benitez.
It's claimed that Townsend was adamant that he has to play in the Premier League next season, and after Newcastle's attempts to turn his exit into a loan departure, the England international will head back to London - and a replacement will arrive almost immediately.
The report adds that Bournemouth winger Matt Ritchie has flown into Newcastle today, and completed a medical with the Magpies this evening ahead of a big-money move to St. James' Park.
Ritchie, 26, hit four goals and six assists in the Premier League for Bournemouth last season, and is closing in on a surprise move to drop back into the Championship with Newcastle.
The Scotland international will replace Townsend as a right winger cutting in on his left foot, and brings proven quality in the Championship having smashed 15 goals and 17 assists in Bournemouth's title-winning campaign in the 2014/15 season.
Having completed his medical tonight, Ritchie looks set to seal his move to Newcastle - and hand Benitez a double swoop alongside striker Gayle.
Do you think Ritchie is a good signing for Newcastle?
