Zabaleta has been a wonderful servant for Manchester City since joining the club from Espanyol back in the summer of 2008 and the defender is considered as one of the key figures in the Citizens establishing themselves as a powerhouse in English football over the last few years.
However, age seems to have caught up with Zabaleta in recent times and the defender is no longer the player he once was.
As a result, the 31-year-old lost his regular right-back spot in the City starting line-up to Bacary Sagna last season and was reduced to only 13 Premier League appearances.
Now according to reports from Gazzetta Dello Sport, Zabaleta is on the verge of leaving City for Roma this summer for a fee of around £2.5 million and the Argentine is close to signing a contract with the Italian giants.
It goes without saying that City will find it difficult to replace a player of Zabaleta’s influence but new manager Pep Guardiola seems to be wasting no time whatsoever in his search for a new right back and Toro News claim that the Premier League side are currently considering a move for Torino full-back Bruno Peres.
Peres impressed for Torino last season and consequently has been able to attract the interest of a host of clubs following his exploits. The Mirror recently reported that Premier League club Watford had launched a £12 million bid to sign Peres and now even City have joined the race for the Brazilian.
City certainly have the financial muscle over Watford to sign Peres but the defender could yet still be swayed by the Hornets as he will be guaranteed first-team football at Vicarage Road.
