Southampton selected the Scot as their new assistant manager, working alongside Claude Puel.
Southampton have announced a new management today with Claude Puel arriving after an impressive four year spell at Nice, and working alongside him, former Aston Villa and Sunderland assistant Eric Black.

Villa fans will still be smarting by the relegation and level of football they witnessed last season, first under Tim Sherwood, then Remi Garde and finally Black himself as he took command of the last seven games of the season - six of which the Villans lost.
It was the former Aberdeen and Metz striker who was actually in charge when Villa were relegated after a loss to Manchester United in April.
Eric Black at Aston Villa
Black's French connections have, much like they did at Villa, landed him another Premier League job helping a French manager settle into new surroundings, this time alongside the new boss. He spent five years in north-east France as a player in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Southampton supporters will obviously be hoping that he does a better job at St Mary's than he managed at Villa Park.
Below are some of the supporters thoughts on his appointment at Southampton, but a word of warning for Saints fans - there aren't many positive ones:
