Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam has tweeted about his joy after seeing Stylian Petrov return to Aston Villa training earlier today.
Petrov was snapped by photographers on his way to join in with Roberto Di Matteo’s side's pre-season training session this afternoon.
Petrov is trying to earn a contract with Villa, as he looks to relaunch his professional career.
The 36-year-old retired from football in 2013 after being diagnosed with leukaemia, but after successfully beating the illness he now wants to return to the sport.
Petrov has been a part of Villa’s coaching team, but the former Bulgarian international is now determined to start playing again.
Whether Villa will offer the midfielder a contract remains to be seen, but he will be looking to prove to Di Matteo that he still has a part to play.
Villa were training at their usual base of Bodymoor Heath this afternoon, but they are set to travel to Austria soon.
Villa are currently one of the favourites to be promoted from the Championship, despite their disastrous relegation last term.
The Claret and Blues’ season gets underway with a match against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on 7th August.
