The Black Cats still hope to sign the Rubin Kazan midfielder after his loan spell last season, but the Wearsiders are trying to negotiate the best possible deal.
Yann M'Vila is in line for a desperate pre-season back at Rubin Kazan according to the Sunderland Echo, as Sunderland continue to push for a permanent deal after an impressive loan spell.
The Echo report says that M'Vila and four other players who were out on loan last season are being made to train away from the first team squad as pre-season begins in Russia - as clear a sign as any that there is no future for some of those on the club's books. However, both Sunderland and the player want to negotiate a free transfer - something the Russians are reluctant to agree to.
Sunderland's Yann M'Vila looks dejected
Former Malaga boss Gracia told the press that he had been told which players were allowed to be involved with the first team: “When I arrived at Kazan, there was a list of players to train with the first team,” he is quoted as saying by the Echo.
“They were not included on that list.
“I can’t say at all that I am unhappy with them, they just weren’t on the list.”
It is both an indication that Sunderland have a strong chance of signing M'Vila, and a desperate scenario for the player. M'Vila has just six months remaining on his contract in Russia, but the Echo says despite a permanent option being included in his loan to Sunderland, the two clubs are negotiating with the Wearsiders and M'Vila hoping he will be released from his contract to sign on a free.

The midfielder had a much needed full season of football at the Stadium of Light last season, playing a particularly vital role as Sam Allardyce inspired the Black Cats to find some form once he took charge in October, and was integral to the club's push away from the relegation zone by the end of the season.
The last thing the 25-year-old will want heading into next season is to see his opportunities stagnate once more. M'Vila has had his fair share of disciplinary problems which have seen his club and international career stutter at times, while a loan move to Inter Milan a couple of years ago failed to see him given the football he would have hoped for.
It seems clear that Allardyce wants to bring the Frenchman back to Sunderland on a permanent basis, though the Premier League club will have to work hard to wear Rubin Kazan down, even with just a few months of his deal remaining, with the Russians having spent big to sign him in 2013.
