According to a report on the Daily Mirror, Newcastle United are close to signing Matt Ritchie from Bournemouth.
Ritchie has been lined up as a replacement for Andros Townsend, who looks set to leave St. James’ Park in the near future.
Townsend is on the verge of a move to Crystal Palace, which is a blow for the North East side.
However, Rafael Benitez is determined to replace the England international and Ritchie is believed to be his first choice to come in.
The addition of Ritchie would be quite a coup for Newcastle, but the Bournemouth man is said to want a move to Tyneside.
Ritchie looked set to play a key role at Bournemouth, who are in the Premier League, but the lure of representing Newcastle has proven too much.
Ritchie could be one of a number of additions Newcastle make this summer, with Matz Sels agreeing to a move earlier today and Dwight Gayle also on the verge of completing a switch (HITC).
Ritchie made 37 Premier League appearances for Bournemouth last season - scoring on four occasions and claiming six assists.
