Aston Villa started their pre-season training today ahead of what they hope will be a short stay in the Championship following their relegation from the Premier League.
Among the familiar faces heading to training was a new addition and a returning hero, with recent signing Tommy Elphick and former star Stiliyan Petrov both caught on camera ahead of their first day training with new Villa boss Roberto Di Matteo.
Elphick signed for Villa from Bournemouth earlier this month, having started last season as the Cherries’ captain before an Achilles tendon injury robbed him of much of the season.
He returned to skipper the side in the final few games of the campaign but he will now start a new chapter at Villa Park.
As for Petrov, his return will be a sight for sore eyes after he successfully fought a battle against leukaemia.
The former Bulgaria international will train with Villa this summer and join them on their pre-season tour as he bids to get his career back on track.
