Crystal Palace striker Chris Gayle has been pictured landing at and leaving Newcastle airport as he prepares to complete his expected move to the Magpies, in photographs appearing on the Newcastle Chronicle website and distributed on Twitter.

The Englishman is reportedly set to move for a fee of around £9 million according to the Chronicle, and will be leaving London after three seasons at Selhurst Park. He is pictured in the airport on his mobile, likely heading to St James's Park to thrash out terms.

The Crystal Palace striker made a big money move from Peterborough in 2013, having stormed up the lower leagues as a youngster following his release by Arsenal.

Though Gayle didn't find the switch to Premier League football easy, he has had plenty of moments where he demonstrated real potential.

Last season was frustrating for the speedy 25-year-old, as he only managed to score three times and was in and out of the starting level, mainly because of a thigh injury obtained in November that caused him problems into the new year.

However, moments such as his match winning brace against Stoke City in Palace's last home game of the season suggest there is a Premier League player in Gayle, and crucially for Newcastle fans, he scored a hat-trick in the League Cup last year against Championship opposition - proof he could be a big hit for a Magpies side sure to take the league by storm next season under Rafa Benitez.
