Matz Sels has signed a five-year deal with Newcastle United.
Matz Sels has tweeted about his pride after completing a move to Newcastle United earlier today.
Sels has penned a five-year deal at St. James’ Park, becoming Rafael Benitez’s first signing at the North East club.
Sels kept goal for Genk last season, but the lure of playing for the Tynesiders convinced him to make a move.
Newcastle spent £5 million on Sels (BBC Sport), and the scale of the investment raises questions over what sort of role he will play.
Newcastle already have Rob Elliot, Karl Darlow and Tim Krul at the club, meaning competition for a place in goal is fierce.
Elliot was arguably Newcastle’s best player last season in the Premier League, while Darlow was impressive towards the back end of the campaign.
Sels arrival could spell the end of Krul, however, with interest rising in the Dutch international.
Sels is set to be one of a number of additions Newcastle make this summer, with Benitez’s side set to be active in the summer transfer window.
