The Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City players were supposed to have been disrespectful toward Iceland.
The 33-year-old was quoted as suggesting that Hart and the Tottenham Hotspur striker were disrespectful toward Iceland in a viral image that is doing the rounds on social media.
SHOCKING about Kane & Hart!!— The Hamburgooner (@Hamburgooner) June 28, 2016
Credit to Kari Arnason for perfect English & impeccable quoting of the players. pic.twitter.com/7OLgFV0mM8
However, Arnason has insisted that what he is alleged to have said is categorically untrue.
Quote attributed to me following our game v. ENG are untrue and absolutely false. Full respect to the England team and players.— Kari Arnason (@karibestmeister) June 28, 2016
It came after England lost 2-1 to Iceland and bowed out of Euro 2016 at the last-16 stage in a defeat which consequently saw manager Roy Hodgson resign.
No England player on the day played well - except perhaps Marcus Rashford, who impressed despite only having four minutes to do so - and Kane was particularly poor.
The Tottenham man, in his first major tournament for England, scored 25 Premier League goals last term but he never looked like scaling those heights in France - and definitely not on Monday.
The 22-year-old looked a shadow of the Spurs hitman he was last term, while an error from Hart led to Iceland's winner.
