Southampton have joined the race to sign West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino as they look to find a replacement for Sadio Mane, according to the Express and Star.

The Senegalese winger has moved to Liverpool for £34m, the Express and Star reports, leaving the Saints with plenty of funds to go after the Baggies forward.

However, they will have to see off competition from some of their Premier League rivals, with Stoke seemingly leading the chase while the Express and Star also claims that Watford and Crystal Palace have been monitoring the 22-year-old's situation.

But the south coast club will fancy their chances of landing the goalscorer. Unlike the other sides reportedly in the running, they are able to offer European football, having qualified for the Europa League, and now have a hefty transfer kitty to play with following Mane's departure.

Though Berahino endured a disappointing campaign last year, his form could arguably be blamed on the strain that has come from the speculation surrounding his future that appears to have been dragging on for several transfer windows now.

But if he does finally get a resolution to the situation, he may be able to rediscover the form that brought him to the attention of so many teams in the top flight. And it appears that the Saints are confident that a move to St Mary's would allow Berahino to get back to his best.
