Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour suggested on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Monday morning (broadcast from 6am, June 27) that Sadio Mane would be a good signing for Liverpool.

According to BBC Sport, Mane is set to undergo a medical at Liverpool after the Reds agreed to pay Premier League rivals Southampton a transfer fee of £34 million, rising to £36m.

“Mane is a top player as well, though,” said Parlour on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Monday morning (broadcast from 6am, June 27).

“He can play anywhere in the three behind. I think Liverpool have got a really good player there as well.”

Mane scored 11 goals and created 41 chances in 37 Premier League matches for Southampton during the 2015-16 season.

The former Red Bull Salzburg winger had a pass accuracy of 81% and a shot accuracy of 52%, and won 26 headers, 77 dribbles and 39 tackles.

During the 2014-15 campaign, Mane scored 10 goals and created 40 chances in 30 Premier League matches for Southampton.

The transfer fee of £34m is a bit steep for Mane, but he is quite young and has proven Premier League quality.

Liverpool will not play in the Champions League next season, which means that they cannot attract the very best players in Europe.

Mane is not one of Europe’s elite wingers, but he has done enough over the past two seasons to deserve a chance to play for one of the biggest clubs of England.
