HITC Sport understands clubs are close to sealing the deal.
Newcastle United have already agreed personal terms with Dwight Gayle, as the Crystal Palace striker closes on a move to the North East, HITC Sport understands.
The Magpies are well on with a number of deals, including one for Belgian goalkeeper Matz Sels – which has seen them beat a host of Premier League club to attract him.
Now Gayle looks set to make the move to the North East, despite late interest from Fulham, Sheffield Wednesday and other Championship clubs.
The 25-year-old is more than happy to link-up with the St James’ Park giants, who want Gayle to help fire them back to the top-flight.
Crystal Palace's Dwight Gayle
Gayle joined Palace in 2013 from Peterborough for a then club record £4.5million, which was incredibly just right months after he moved to London Road from Dagenham and Redbridge.
Newcastle will pay just over £10 million for Gayle, who they hope will put pen to paper this week.
A Newcastle source told HITC Sport: “It is some way down the line, the clubs still need to sort some things out.”
Newcastle are expecting some sales in the not so distant future with Gino Wijnaldum and Moussa Sissoko set for the exit door, but there are no signs of their being an exodus from the club – despite their relegation from the Premier League.
