England crashed out of Euro 2016 thanks to a 2-1 loss to Iceland in Nice.
England head coach Roy Hodgson
Nice will forever go down as one of the scenes of one of the great debacles when it comes to England's international football history.
It was expected to be a stroll for the Three Lions. From the moment that Iceland scored their last minute winner against Austria in the final game of the group stage there was an element of relief for England that they were going to face Iceland rather than Portugal.
No-one expected it to be like this. It looked as if it was going to be a good night in the fourth minute for England. Raheem Sterling - under-fire and bereft of confidence following his two performances at this tournament so far - was brought down by Hannes Halldorsson, allowing Wayne Rooney to give England an early lead from the penalty spot.
All England needed to do was not concede. Well, that went out of the window pretty quickly. Though one of the threats identified was from throw-ins, they looked as if they hadn't practiced them beforehand as Ragnar Sigurdsson capitalised on some woeful marking to fire home from close range.
Before the 20-minute mark, England found themselves behind courtesy of some static defending, and woeful goalkeeping from Joe Hart as the Manchester City man really should've prevented Kolbeinn Sigthorsson's strike finding the net.
What followed from then on was toil, and the very real possibility of Iceland finding a third on the counter-attack. England were unable to string passes together, while direction from the touchline was very much lacking from the now departed England manager.
On a truly awful night for English football, here are some images of last night's encounter:
