The Newcastle United man's agent is speaking with "many clubs".
The 23-year-old left Newcastle in January to re-join Marseille after a difficult first six months with the Magpies, netting once in 16 appearances following his £13 million summer move from the Ligue 1 side.
Steve McClaren, who brought him to Tyneside, has since been replaced as manager by Rafael Benitez in a move which complicates the his situation, given that it remains to be seen whether or not the new Spanish boss wants him on Tyneside.
It was reported by Gianluca Di Marzio last week that Newcastle had quoted reported suitors Lazio around £10 million for his signature. Marcelo Bielsa, whom Thauvin played his best football under at Marseille, is now in charge of the Italian club.
However, the Frenchman says that Marseille want him back for next season in a revelation which he refuses to ignore, but stressed that he was still a Newcastle player.....for now.
“I know OM are thinking about it. As I’ve always said, Marseille will always mean something to me," he said to La Provence.
"Of course, you can’t ignore their interest. It’s up to Marseille or Newcastle to communicate on the matter. My agent is in talks with many clubs, but it’s not up to me to say something. For now, I’m a Newcastle player.”
If Thauvin could not cut it in the Premier League then a stint in the Championship is unlikely to bring the best out of him and it may be best for all parties if he were to move on.
