Quoted by the London Evening Standard, Xherdan Shaqiri has backed Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka to bounce back from his penalty miss.

The Switzerland midfielder proved to be the villain on Saturday afternoon as he smashed a spot kick wide in his country’s penalty shootout with Poland.

He proved to be the only one to miss from the penalty spot after the two sides had played out a 1-1 draw, meaning the Swiss exited the competition at the last sixteen stage.

It was a disappointing end to what has been an all round impressive tournament for Xhaka, whose performances have caught the eye of Arsenal fans.

Shaqiri though, has backed his international teammate to bounce back and cope with the disappointment.

"Granit is very professional, so he can cope with this," the London Evening Standard reports him saying.

"He will get up and move on. Sometimes you are the best, and sometimes the saddest."

Xhaka will now turn his attention to Arsenal and his first season in the Premier League next year. His arrival is eagerly anticipated at the Emirates after they paid big money for him before the start of Euro 2016.

His performances at that tournament have certainly caught the eye of the Gunners faithful and he will be hoping that next season finishes better than the tournament did.
