The Arsenal midfielder missed a penalty in the shootout defeat to Poland.
The Gunners midfielder missed a decisive penalty on Saturday as his side were knocked out of Euro 2016 by Poland.
After the two sides had played out a 1-1 draw, Xhaka smashed a penalty wide of Lukasz Fabianski’s post in the shootout as they were eventually beaten 5-4.
It was a disappointing end to what had been a strong tournament for Xhaka, who has caught the eye of Arsenal fans ahead of his move to the Emirates Stadium. It has not deterred him though as he vowed to bounce back and step up again in the next shootout.
“I'm sorry for my teammates, for the travelling fans, for Switzerland,” the Daily Mail reports him saying.
“Anyone who knows me knows that I will make sure I come back even stronger. I promise I will step up at the next penalty shootout.”
Arsenal fans will certainly be hoping that Xhaka can bounce back quickly from the disappointing end to the tournament.
As already mentioned, he had put in a series of strong performances up until that point to leave Gunners fans eagerly anticipating his arrival next season.
They will be keen to see him replicate those performances in an Arsenal shirt and praying that this disappointment does not stay with him too long.
