Cheick M’Bengue has confirmed to the Sunderland Echo that he would be interested in a move to Sunderland this summer.
M’Bengue is reportedly on the Black Cats’ shortlist, as Sam Allardyce looks to increase his options at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland are determined to add to their squad this summer, as they do not want to be dragged into a relegation fight once again.
M’Bengue is reportedly on their list of targets, and the Senegalese international claims that he would be keen to move to the Stadium of Light.
"It's a club that interests me," he said of Sunderland’s interest.
M’Bengue is currently a free agent, after his contract at Stade Rennais ran out at the end of last season.
The 27-year-old also has offers from abroad, while Sunderland’s rivals, Newcastle United, have been linked in recent times.
M’Bengue would be brought to Sunderland to provide competition on the left-hand side of defence.
Patrick Van Aanholt looks likely tor remain as Sunderland’s first choice left-back, but M’Bengue could be a good backup option for the former Chelsea man.
