Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino believes Wales talisman Gareth Bale has been the best player at the European Championships thus far, French publication L’Equipe report.

The Argentine coach has been closely following the tournament in France this summer, largely due to the number of Spurs players on show as well as watching potential transfer targets in action.

It has been a fascinating tournament thus far, though for Tottenham supporters there could be a sense of regret as two particular players - ex-Spurs stars Luka Modric and Gareth Bale - have been nothing short of phenonemal.

Speaking to L’Equipe, Pochettino believes after helping Wales progress to the final stages after such a long absence from international majors, there can be no doubt that Bale is the main man in France.

“The best player so far? Bale. Three goals for his country when they are in their first international competition and when there is a lot of pressure: it is the first time in a very long time that Wales make it to the final stages,” the Spurs coach was quoted as saying by Get French Football News.

Tottenham have the basis of a very good team nowadays, but one can only imagine how could they could be with both Modric and Bale still in their ranks rather than at Real Madrid.

Wales' Gareth Bale shoots at goal

Bale, 26, netted 21 goals in 33 Premier League games before trading North London for the Spanish Capital in 2013, and he has only gotten better since with two Champions League medals to his name.

That said, his biggest achievement thus far has been on the international stage and after leading Wales through a tough qualifying group, he has proven his world class ability in France with three goals thus far.
