French sports media outlet France Football are reporting that Turkish giants Besiktas have made a £6.5 million (€8 million) bid for Marseille's French international midfielder Remy Cabella.

The Newcastle Chronicle reported how Marseille exercised their option to sign Cabella on a permanent basis, following his loan spell with the club, for a fee believed to be £6.3 million.

Cabella, 26, spent a season at Newcastle United after moving to St James' Park in 2014 for a fee of around £8 million, but failed to live up to expectations that his reputation merited.

France Football goes on to suggest that although the former Montpellier man's move to Marseilles only becomes official at the end of this month, the fact that Besiktas can offer Champions League football could prove a significant factor in where Cabella is playing next season.

Cabella is a player of high quality and undoubted potential, but like so many foreign imports before him, he was just not suited to the high octane style of Premier League football. He will have a chance to rebuild his reputation within the game, however, whether that be in France or Turkey.
