Leeds United are said to be looking at signing Reading full-back Chris Gunter.
According to the Daily Mirror, Leeds United are interested in signing Reading defender Chris Gunter.
The Welsh international is reportedly available for £1 million this summer, with Garry Monk taking an interest in bringing him to Elland Road.
There is little doubt over Gunter’s quality, but for Leeds the transfer would surely be unnecessary.
The Whites do not have an unlimited supply of funds, and if they are to invest £1 million on a player it should surely be in another position in their team.
Leeds have a more urgent need to bring in a central-defender and some strikers than they do a right-back, where they are well stocked.
Leeds already have Gaetano Berardi, who should be their first choice right-back of the season ahead.
Berardi was one of Leeds’ most consistent performers last term, and he looks to be one of the finest full-backs in the Championship.
If Berardi does pick up an injury, Leeds also have Lewie Coyle in reserve and the youngster looks a bright talent.
The arrival of Gunter would raise a few eyebrows, given his quality, but the purchase would be an unnecessary one and Monk should look for other players to invest his transfer budget in.
