Reading’s Danny Williams and Leeds United's Kalvin Phillips in action
Leeds United confirmed on their official website on Thursday that midfielder Kalvin Phillips has penned a new three-year deal with the club.
The Whites have promoted a number of young players into the first-team squad in recent years, with Charlie Taylor, Alex Mowatt and Lewis Cook all key players at Elland Road, whilst Sam Byram's performances earned him a big move to West Ham United in January.
Now, Leeds are attempting to keep hold of more young talent, with midfielder Phillips billed a possible player for the future - and he's signed a new contract with the club.
The 20-year-old was born and bred in Leeds, and has been on the books with the club since 2010, making 12 first-team appearances for the club from then on.
Leeds have now tied Phillips down to a new three-year contract, confirming on their official website on Thursday that a deal has been agreed for the young midfielder to commit his future to the Whites.
Since announcing the deal, Leeds fans have been taking to Twitter to give their reactions to the deal, with many delighted to see Phillips stay for the long-term.
Fans believe that Phillips has the potential to be a key player for Leeds in the future, and think this new deal gives him the opportunity to play - though others aren't quite so excited.
After Phillips signed a new deal though, fans ultimately turned their attention to more young players, as they would like to see the aforementioned Taylor, Cook and Mowatt sign new deals in the near future...
Can't get excited about Phillips. Not knocking him but has been on the fringes of the team when others have but theyre now regulars. #lufc— Barry Swann (@bazzswann) June 23, 2016
The performance at Bristol City away last season is enough to say that Phillips is good enough. #lufc— Jack (@EllandReports) June 23, 2016
Phillips will be a quality footballer at this level. We need to allow him a platform to showcase that, he'll pay it back in no time. #lufc— Paddy Gunn (@HarteandSoul) June 23, 2016
