Following Aston Villa’s terrible campaign in the Premier League last term, which unsurprisingly resulted in relegation, the mood around the club was understandably very glum.
However, it has to be said that things are certainly looking up for the Villans at the moment. Over the summer, the hugely unpopular Randy Lerner sold the club to Tony Xia and the Chinese billionaire has gone on to appoint a manager of high caliber in the form of Roberto Di Matteo.
In a further cause for optimism for the long suffering Villa faithful, it was confirmed on Thursday that legend Stiliyan Petrov would be joining the club’s coaching team ahead of the start of the club’s pre-season training next week.
Petrov played for Villa between 2006 and 2012 before being force to retire due to a battle against an acute form of leukaemia. The Bulgarian has bravely fought back the illness and is now on the verge of making a return back to the game by rejoining his beloved Villa as a coach.
The announcement most certainly delighted the Aston Villa faithful and now star midfielder Jack Grealish has also gone on to express his happiness at the return of Petrov.
The youngster tweeted,
Aston Villa kick off their Championship campaign with a clash against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on August 7th.
