Empoli head coach Giovanni Martusciello has told Sky Sport that he is hopeful that he can sign Giuseppe Bellusci from Leeds United in the summer transfer window.

Martusciello, though, has admitted that there are complications in the transfer of the Italian defender from Championship outfit Leeds to Italian club Empoli.

“I am aware of the situation of Bellusci,” Martusciello told Sky Sport, as reported by Gianlucadimarzio.com. “I hope, however, that these difficulties can be overcome.”

Bellusci has been on the books of Leeds since 2014 and has a contract with the Championship club until June 2018, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

The Italian defender created eight chances in 27 Championship appearances for Leeds last season.

The 26-year-old centre-back had a pass accuracy of 71% and a shot accuracy of 27%, and won 43 headers, 13 dribbles and 52 tackles.

During the 2014-15 campaign, the 26-year-old central defender scored two goals and created nine chances in 30 Championship matches for the West Yorkshire outfit.

The former Ascoli and Catania man had a pass accuracy of 73% and a shot accuracy of 50%, and won 54 headers, 17 dribbles and 57 tackles.

Leeds, who last featured in the Premier League in 2004, endured a disappointing 2015-16 season and failed to finish in the top 10 of the Championship. Empoli ended 10th in the 2015-16 Serie A campaign.
