Newcastle United want to make permanent signings over loan deals this summer, reports the Chronicle.

The Magpies are expected to be busy in this summer transfer window as Rafa Benitez wields his influence at the club.

The Spaniard is keen to build a squad that can challenge for the Championship title and secure an instant return to the Premier League next season.

They have already been linked with several stars, while recent reports have hinted that they may try to do work in the loan market.

However, according to the Chronicle, senior sources at the club believe that the majority of the incomings this summer will be permanent signings rather than loan deals.

While they are not ruling out any potential short-term recruits, there is a belief that the club will struggle to secure the top talent on loan.

That is because they feel that St James Park is not an attractive destination for Premier League sides to send their top talent, as Benitez cannot promise game time.

Who they now target remains to be seen, with the Spaniard making a central defender who can add experience and leadership and a striker his priority signings
