According to a report in the Express and Star, Aston Villa midfielder Ashley Westwood has become a transfer target for newly promoted Burnley.
The Clarets were promoted to the Premier League last season, but they have already been dealt a blow this summer when Joey Barton left.
Barton captained Burnley last term, but he opted to move to Rangers rather than sign a new contract at Turf Moor.
Burnley now have a gap in the centre of their midfield to fill, and they believe that Villa man Westwood would help to plug it.
Villa reportedly want to keep hold of Westwood, but Burnley are said to be willing to make an offer - providing the 26-year-old is prepared to take a pay cut.
Westwood is believed to be on £35,000-a-week a Villa currently, although his salary is set to drop following the Midlands side’s relegation to the Championship.
Westwood made 37 appearances in all competitions for Villa last season, and will likely be in Roberto Di Matteo’s starting line-up if he does stay.
