Newcastle United are currently the favourites to win the Championship next season.
Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez has told BBC Radio Newcastle that he has already been discussing the tactics that his side could come up against in the Championship next season with some members of his squad at St. James’ Park.
Newcastle are not yet back for pre-season training, but Benitez has been keen to keep in contact with his players.
The Spanish boss realises the challenge that awaits for his side next season, when they will be favourites to win the Championship.
Beating Newcastle will be seen as a major scalp for any side in the second tier, and Benitez has warned some of the Magpies’ players that they could come up against sides happy to hit them on the counter next term.
“I was talking with some players during the summer about the future, telling them that the teams [Newcastle face] will be deep,” he said. “We have to make sure that we have a game plan [for that]. We have to prepared for these things.”
Last season in the Premier League, Newcastle were viewed as a beatable opponent and generally had teams come at them.
However, the onus will be on Newcastle to attack in most their fixtures next term, with opposition sides likely to consider a point to be a good result against Benitez’s men.
There has not been a great amount of change at Newcastle yet, with Benitez looking to keep the bulk of his squad together.
Benitez also has confirmed that Newcastle are close to making three new signings, as he aims to add Championship experience to his squad.
