Speaking to ESPN Brasil, former Manchester City attacker Gabriel Fernando Almeida has gone on to reveal that he was desperate to play for rivals Manchester United.
Despite still being in his teens, Almeida has already been in the books of some of the biggest clubs in the world. The midfielder started his career at Portuguese side Sporting and has since signed for the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Flamengo, Corinthians, Manchester City and most recently, Internacional.
The well travelled youngster spent a couple of years at Manchester City’s Under-18 squad not and had the opportunity to work with high profile names such as Roberto Mancini, Mario Balotelli, Patrick Vieira, Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez and Vincent Kompany among others.
Now Almeida has gone on to speak regarding his experience at City and has made an admission which is surely unlikely to please the Sky Blues’ faithful.
The 19-year-old stated that following his time at City, he desperately wanted to sign for rivals United but the move did not come into fruition and he was eventually also let go by the Citizens.
“They wanted me to be there. It didn’t work out. I spent more time at City, and I didn’t want to renew. We proposed a deal and they didn’t accept.”
