The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder could be set for a move this summer.
Fast-forward 24 hours and Sky Sports claimed that Italian side Napoli are also keen on the 23-year-old.
But assuming Tottenham are willing to sell Pritchard this summer – and it remains a big if considering his undeniable if stagnating talent – there is only one sensible choice for the midfielder and that is to head to St James’ Park.
Moving to one of the biggest clubs in Italy would no doubt be appealing, yet Pritchard needs to put his career back on track after injuries robbed him of the chance to build on his superb loan spell at Brentford, and the best way for him to do that is to shine for Newcastle.
During his loan spell at Brentford he scored 12 goals and provided seven assists to help the club into the play-offs and at Newcastle he could do even better.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino may yet have big plans for Pritchard, whose contract at White Hart Lane runs until 2019, but with new signings likely to arrive and the competition for places already at Spurs Pritchard may have a decision to make.
If that is the case a switch to Newcastle would be the best for all concerned.
