According to reports from the Northern Echo, Sunderland currently remain in talks over the recruitment of the duo of Martin Braithwaite and Clement Chantome.
Sunderland managed to pull off an amazing escape act once again last season, but following numerous close calls over the last few years fans of the Black Cats will surely be welcoming of a less nail-biting campaign next term.
Manager Sam Allardyce is well aware of the fact that he will now need to bring about some sort of stability at the Stadium of Light and the 60-year-old will most certainly have to strengthen his squad this summer in order to do so.
Understandably, Sunderland have been linked with a host of players over the past few weeks and various reports have claimed that the Black Cats are very interested in the duo of Martin Braithwaite (Daily Mail) and Clement Chantome (The Chronicle).
Now the Northern Echo has gone on to provide an update regarding the speculation and reveal that Sunderland remain locked in negotiations over the signing of both Braithwaite and Chantome.
Braithwaite has entered the final year of his contract at Toulouse and looks certain to be leaving the French side this summer, with Sunderland increasingly looking like his preferred destination.
As for Chantome, he has already decided to leave Bordeaux on a free transfer and Sunderland face competition from the likes of Everton and Middlesbrough for the French international.
