Liverpool wanted to bring in Leicester left-back Chilwell but have baulked at the £10 million asking price.
Liverpool look to have failed in their approach for one of their major targets, Leicester City's Ben Chilwell, but it appears as though they already have other options lined up, with Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte claiming that they have now turned their attentions to Douglas Santos.
Jurgen Klopp wanted to bring England Under-21 international Chilwell to Anfield to compete for the left-back spot, but the Reds have been put off after their £7 million offer was rejected as the Foxes hold out for £10 million for the 19-year-old.
Klopp is keen to strengthen his options in the position after Alberto Moreno's underwhelming season, but he will now likely have to turn his attentions elsewhere unless he wants to spend over the odds on an unproven youngster.
According to Globo Esporte, one of the alternatives being considered is Brazilian defender Douglas Santos, currently playing for Atletico Mineiro in his home country.
The 22-year-old, a full Brazil international who travelled in the squad to the Copa America, has caught the eye of European giants such as Barcelona with some impressive displays in his domestic league in recent times.
The outlet reports that other top clubs such as Borussia Dortmund and Valencia have been alerted to his talents and so Liverpool could face some stiff competition, but it is thought that no bids have been made as things stand.
Atletico are said to value their young star at around €10 million (£7.7 million) but it is thought that the Brazilian side would be willing to do business at around €8 million (£6.2 million) as they have already strengthened their own left-back options in the transfer market.
