Burnley have set their sights on Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam, according to the Lancashire Telegraph.

Sean Dyche is reportedly keen to add Premier League experience to the Clarets' midfield following their promotion to the top flight last season.

Burnley won the Championship last term, with an impressive return of 93 points from 46 games, ensuring they return to the top division at the first time of asking.

But despite that success, Dyche will want to learn from the mistakes of their last attempt to secure themselves in England’s highest division, when they were relegated after just one season following promotion.

And with the departure of influential midfielder Joey Barton to Rangers, there is a gaping hole in the centre of the park that Dyche knows needs an experienced Premier League head.

Burnley would certainly be getting experience in the form of Adam, who burst onto the scene in the Premier League with his excellent range of passing and his adept set-piece taking during Blackpool’s brief liaison with the Premier League.

He left Blackpool after two years at the club to join Liverpool, where he enjoyed a mix spell, making 28 appearances before again moving on to another Premier League destination, this time at Stoke City.

Adam has two years remaining on his contract at Stoke, and he is thought to be keen to stay at the Britannia Stadium for as long as they want him.
