Could Kevin Durant link back up with James Harden in Houston?

Dwight Howard has informed the Houston Rockets he will opt out of his contract and become a free agent, ESPN report.

Howard has struggled to recapture his 'Orlando Magic' in Houston, although his spell won't be considered the disaster it was previously at the LA Lakers.

Intriguingly, Howard's departure frees up $45 million in cap space for Houston, who have recently been an aggressive team in Free Agency.

So it would make sense for the team to put that money towards trying to lure the summer's top free agent, Kevin Durant.

Durant has an option to leave Oklahoma City Thunder this off season, and at Houston he could link back up with James Harden.

Durant and Harden were teammates at OKC and even reached the NBA Championship finals together in 2012, before Harden was later traded to the Rockets.

While Houston did not make the play-offs this season, Harden has remained an outstanding if a little inconsistent player, but lacked chemistry with Howard.

Reuniting him with Kevin Durant could be just what both players have been looking for, and mould the Rockets into a team capable of fighting for top placings in the Eastern Conference.
