West Ham United have a brand new pitch at their Olympic Stadium home and Jack Sullivan has tweeted a picture of it in all its glory.

The Hammers brought the curtain down on 112 years of history at their beloved Boleyn Ground at the end of the season with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Manchester United.

And now all eyes are on their big move to the 60,000 seater Olympic Stadium down the road in Stratford.

The stadium transformation has been moving at a pace with the stadium store set to open soon.

One of the most important elements of the move took place two weeks ago as the new state of the art Desso pitch was seeded as the clock ticks down to the club's opening game against as yet unknown opposition in the Europa League at the end of July/beginning of August.

The first sprouts of grass came up after five days and the pitch was then ready for its inaugural full cut.

Fever pitch

And now Hammers fans can get a glimpse of how it is coming along thanks to Sullivan, son of co-owner David, who posted a picture on Twitter.

He said: "Pitch looking good!"

According to the club's official website the work that has gone into the new pitch will result in the Hammers playing on a 'world-class surface'.

For a time the surface at Upton Park was the envy of many a Premier League team.

But in recent years it has deteriorated quite quickly, perhaps due to the club's involvement in a longer Championship season in 2011/12 going straight back up to the top flight.

Excitement building

While the Hammers will be playing the home leg of their Europa League qualifier as the first game at their new home, the official opening match at the stadium comes against Italian and European giants Juventus on August 7 ahead of the newPremier League campaign.

West Ham have sold 52,000 season tickets for their new ground, the second most in the Premier League behind Manchester United.
