Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has said he is confident that his first goal for England will come if he keeps working hard, Sky Sports reports.

Lallana has not found the net in any of his 26 international caps to date but he had a couple of opportunities in the Euro 2016 group games against Russia and Slovakia.

He told Sky Sports: "Obviously I'd liked to have maybe got a goal in definitely the first game. I had a couple of chances on Monday as well, the keeper made a good save.

"I feel if I keep working hard, it will come."

Lallana has been an impressive performer for England so far with some hard work and clever play, but if there is one thing his game could do with improving on it is his goal-scoring return.

During his first two seasons with Liverpool Lallana has managed to find the net on six and seven occasions respectively, and with someone that plays so high up the field, it is perhaps expected that he should be reaching double figures for his club every season.

England's lack of goals has been a problem so far as they failed to breach Slovakia's defence despite having large parts of the play, and they toiled to get a lead against Russia before surrendering it late on. Their winner against Wales came late in the day.

As a result, there could be one or two looking at Lallana and questioning his place in the side if he is not providing much of a goal threat.

His aim should be to silence any critics in the next round of the competition and get himself on the score-sheet.
