Villa suffered a disappointing relegation to the Championship last season but things seem to be looking up for the Villans over the past few weeks.
Villa have recently been taken over by wealthy Chinese businessman Tony Xia and he has managed to appoint a high profile manager at the helm of Villa Park in the form of Roberto Di Matteo.
Now given the availability of funds as well as Di Matteo potentially attracting high profile names to Villa this summer, it is believed that the Midlands based club will be able to mount a genuine promotion bid to the Premier League during the upcoming Championship campaign.
However, Dyer does not seem to be too optimistic regarding Villa’s prospects of earning promotion next season.
In an interview with the Daily Express, Dyer stated that his former club Newcastle are in much better shape than Villa at the moment and added that Di Matteo’s side could even struggle to earn a playoff position in the Championship.
The 37-year-old said: “You look at the Villa team at the moment, I don’t fancy them to get top six in the Championship. They’re a lot worse off than Newcastle, that’s for sure.”
