The 28-year-old was keen to stay at PSG, but the French club opted against offering him a new deal at the Parc des princes.

The right-back struggled to hold down a regular place in the PSG side last season under Laurent Blanc, making 27 appearances in all competitions.

Van der Wiel joined PSG from Ajax in 2012 and he helped the club win four successive Ligue 1 titles, three Coupe de la Ligue trophies and the Coupe de France during his time in France.

A number of Premier League clubs, including West Ham United and Swansea City have been linked with a move for van der Wiel on a free transfer, but it seems the player is poised to move to Turkey.

Van der Weil is understood to have cut short a holiday to travel to Istanbul for talks with Fenebahce and those talks have progressed smoothly.

Fenerbahce are keen to improve their squad for next season after losing out to Besiktas for the Turkish Super Lig title last season.
