Payet has been one of the best players at the Euro 2016 finals so far this summer and has been arguably the best for home nation France.
The 29-year-old has scored two goals and created 14 chances in three matches for Didier Deschamps’s side.
The former Marseille star has a pass accuracy of 80% and a shot accuracy of 40%, and has won eight dribbles and one tackle.
Former Arsenal and England international attacker Merson has been impressed with the performances of Payet for France, and believes that the West Ham attacking midfielder has been outstanding.
“He has been outstanding,” Merson told talkSPORT about Payet. “He is a top player. We have watched him in the Premier League. He has got that X-factor.”
Payet was in brilliant form for West Ham last season, and he seems to have carried the momentum into the 2016 European Championship.
The France international scored nine goals and created 116 chances in 30 Premier League appearances for the Hammers during the 2015-16 campaign.
The former Lille attacker had a pass accuracy of 81% and a shot accuracy of 55%, and won two headers, 67 dribbles and 16 tackles.
