Rangers manager Mark Warburton celebrates
Rangers manager Mark Warburton has told the club's official website that he wants up to four more signings to arrive at Ibrox this summer.
The Gers have unsurprisingly been active in the transfer market, as defender Clint Hill as well as midfielders Jordan Rossiter and Joey Barton have all arrived, on top of Accrington Stanley duo Matt Crooks and Josh Windass, who signed pre-contract agreements with the club in January.
With promotion to the Scottish Premiership, Rangers will need additional quality in their squad, and it's clear that Warburton and his head of recruitment Frank McParland aren't done just yet.
A number of players are being linked with moves to Ibrox, and with Ranger returning to pre-season training over the weekend, Warburton wants more new faces in quickly.
Speaking to the club's official website earlier today, Warburton revealed that he wants up to four more new signings to arrive, as he is keen to strengthen his goalkeeping options, as well as adding two defenders and a new striker to his side.
"We’re looking at adding another goalkeeper to the ranks to again increase competition," said Warburton. "Another defender, maybe two defenders coming in and we’ll look at a striking option. So there will be more to come in. Frank [McParland] has had a fantastic summer so far in terms of recruits we’ve had, but his work is endeavouring to work forward and try and secure the names we need."
"It’s all over the park, we need full-back cover, so hopefully bring in a full-back who can cover on both flanks as well as another centre half. We’ve got Clint so we’ve got three but I think we need four for the campaign ahead, so we’ll look to do that and obviously add a striker.
"We’ve got Kenny, we’ve got Waggy of course and they can play wide, but I think we need one more option. So that is what we are looking for and hopefully we’ll secure them before the start of the season," he added.
Recent transfer rumours support Warburton's shopping list; the Sunday Post recently claimed that former Hamilton goalkeeper Michael McGovern - currently playing for Northern Ireland at Euro 2016 - is a target for the Gers to add competition for Wes Foderingham.
The Daily Record also claim interest in free agent full back Lee Hodson, who worked with Warburton at both Watford and Brentford, whilst Jamaican international Adrian Mariappa is in talks over a reunion with his former Watford coach according to The Express.
Add in that The Scottish Sun believe Rangers want David Weir's former Everton team-mate James Vaughan to boost their attack and we may have an indication of what Warburton's squad could look like next season.
