Belgium's Mousa Dembele in action with Republic of Ireland's Wes Hoolahan
Dembele and Witsel started Belgium's 3-0 win over Republic of Ireland at the weekend, bouncing back from their opening game defeat to Italy.
Belgium's Mousa Dembele sustains an injury
The Spurs star is fighting to be fit for their final game against Sweden on Wednesday, after picking up an ankle injury.
Speaking at a press conference, Dembele said: "It was an interaction, a bit like at Tottenham. Sometimes one went forward, then the other.
"I think that I am now more aware of when the coach asks me too defensive to do my part. The opening stage against the Irish was not as easy as they slumped deep, but the balance with Witsel was okay."
Belgium's Axel Witsel celebrates after scoring their second goal
Witsel, who netted the second goal against Ireland, is a player who has even been linked with joining Dembele at Tottenham, with The Sun reporting earlier this year they were considering a £20 million move.
Witsel this week said, speaking to ESPN, he would be open to leaving Zenit St Petersburg for the Premier League or Serie A.
Dembele's comments about the ease he had playing alongside the midfielder should put Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino on alert if he is indeed keen on signing the midfielder.
Unfortunately for Witsel's chances of landing a move for Spurs, their acquisition of Victor Wanyama could mean he is np longer on their radar, unless they sell either or both of Nabil Bentaleb or and Ryan Mason.
