Speaking to The Scottish Sun, Coll Donaldson has claimed it is easy to forget how good Rangers midfielder Joey Barton actually is.
The 33-year-old joined the Gers on a two-year deal this summer after helping Burnley to Premier League promotion last season.
The former Newcastle United midfielder was one of the Championship's best players last term and, in theory, he should have a similar impact in the Scottish Premiership.
Barton is already becoming something of a cult hero at Rangers following digs at Celtic pair Scott Brown and Brendan Rodgers, but Donaldson, who spent a season with the outspoken Liverpudlian at, says his ability has gone under the radar somewhat.
“Last year he was in the Team of the Championship and he will bring a wealth of experience to Rangers and quality as well," he told The Scottish Sun.
“It’s gone under the radar how good a player he is. I saw him first hand and saw how good he is."
Barton is certainly making the prospect of Rangers - Celtic meetings next season that bit more exciting, with the subplot of him versus Brown quite mouth-watering to be fair, but will he walk the walk?
If he excels in the Championship, there's no reason why he shouldn't do the same in Scotland's top flight.
