Will Arsenal make Tottenham regret not pushing through Moussa Dembele deal for years to come?

News broke over the weekend that Arsenal are considering a move for soon to be out of contract Fulham striker Moussa Dembele, ESPN reported.

Dembele is one of the most highly rated young strikers in Europe, once of PSG's youth system, and came close to a move to Tottenham Hotspur in January.

The French striker even had a medical with Tottenham in January, SkySports reported, before the Premier League side pulled out of a move.

The two clubs had agreed a fee, but SkySports reported it fell through after Fulham demanded Dembele be loaned back to them for the rest of the season.

Spurs allowed this with Dele Alli 12 months earlier at MK Dons request, and it was the right move for all parties, and in this case keeping Dembele was sensible for Fulham because his goals helped them stay in the Championship.

Months on, from Tottenham's end it has all gone quiet. The striker they wanted to sign six months ago is not appearing to be a priority.

Early last week Turkish newspaper Fanatik reported Dembele was close to Galatasaray. From Tottenham's perspective this would neither be here nor there, an opportunity missed perhaps, but not one which would directly harm them.

Now with Arsenal's interest raised, that situation has suddenly changed.

Dembele, who struck 15 goals last season in the Championship, could be a player who would have the potential to haunt Spurs for years to come.

The striker turns 20 in July and if he becomes a success at The Emirates, would be there for the best part of a decade scoring goals in a red and white shirt.

Tottenham will have their own goal threats, but Dembele was so nearly theirs, it will be unpleasant for the club to watch him become a success for their nearest rivals, and could be a deal chairman Daniel Levy really regrets passing up on.
